'Members Views' meeting - 5pm Saturday 2nd August at the clubrooms
It will be 30-45min and start 5pm sharp.
I would like at least 3 or 4 members from each team to attend to discus the club future. Bar will be open.
We have a few issues coming up where I which I would like to get opinion on.
It will be a brain storm type session. I will try to make it fun and even have prizes.
The ideas is to get a group together in discuss the best way the run things like:
- getting subs in, best practice/value.
- team managers
- fines
- playing on a Sunday
- summer football teams
- what is important to 'average player'
- possible club mergers
- ground lighting
But to make it effective I would need numbers, so please advice you team mates to attend.

Halswell United AFC, in conjunction with the Canterbury Down Syndrome Association and the Canterbury Special Olympics will be holding an afternoon of football for all special needs children of primary/intermediate school age and their families.
This is designed to be a fun afternoon where children can play football. Attractions include a bouncy castle, sausage sizzle and an amazing football pitch supplied by McDonalds. Spaces are limited but it is hoped that with enough support, we can make this an ongoing event over the spring and summer. Please also bring a plate for afternoon tea. All special needs players participating will receive a certificate. See the attached information sheet for further details.
To register, please email Kaye Young,on rbkmyoung@xtra.co.nz. with the following details Name and age of the special needs child Name and age of other siblings who wish to play Name of parents Home phone number, cell phone number [if you have one] Your email address for cancellations.
Halswell United and St Andrews College form partnership
Halswell United has teams involved in both premier grades which are a huge drawing card the club as it looks to attract young players to the club. Halswell United will support St Andrews College by;
1. Providing a network for potential coaches
2. Providing support to all football coaches at the school
3. Utilising its Football Development Officer to assist the partnership. This will also ensure support for both youth and senior sections, thus assisting to improve player retention at the club when players leave high school.
4. Providing friendly fixtures against the college’s top teams as part of their preparation for national and regional tournaments.
5. Promoting itself within the school environment as an integral partner of the school football programme.
One of the challenges faced by Mainland Football is to build stronger partnerships between schools and clubs. This formal school and club signed agreement is a key development and certainly a step in the right direction. Bush said that “club football is for life but school football plays an important part of a young player’s life and we need to respect and support that”.
